The fourth-seeded Jankovic went the distance to sneak past Romanian Simona Halep 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Eighteenth-seeded Aravane Rezai of France advanced with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (9-7) victory over Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova.
Other seeded winners on Day 2 were No. 22 Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and No. 25 Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru.
Also reaching the round of 64 were Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder, Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, Croat Mirjana Lucic and Swede Sofia Arvidsson.
