02/18/2009 - Sacramento, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Sacramento Kings have traded center Brad Miller and swingman John Salmons to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for forwards Andres Nocioni, Cedric Simmons and Michael Ruffin, and center Drew Gooden.
The Kings then turned around and sent Ruffin to Portland in exchange for forward Ike Diogu. The Trail Blazers also gain a $3 million trade exception, which they can use for one calendar year.
We want to thank Ike for his time with the Trail Blazers, and hopefully this trade will give him an opportunity to play more minutes in Sacramento,"
Additionally, Sacramento waived guards Quincy Douby and Sam Cassell.
Salmons and Miller are the Kings' second and third leading scorers this season, with 18.3 and 11.9 points per game, respectively. Salmons also has averages of 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 53 games, while Miller has posted 8.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 43 games.
Salmons, 29, is in his seventh NBA season, having played the first four years with Philadelphia and the past three with Sacramento. He has career averages of 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 494 games.
"John Salmons will bring us tremendous versatility in the backcourt, and at the small forward position," said John Paxson, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations. "He has good size and length, and has shown the ability to score this year. We feel he's one of the most improved players in the league at this point of the season."
Miller, 32, now in his 11th season, has posted career numbers of 12.1 points and 7.8 rebounds over 684 games with the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago, Indiana and Sacramento.
"Brad Miller is a skilled big man, who we feel will fit into many of the things that we run offensively," Paxson said. "He is a good shooter and passer, and has a natural feel for how to play the game."
Nocioni, 29, is in his fifth NBA season and is averaging 10.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 53 games for the Bulls. Over 351 career games, all with Chicago, he has career averages of 11.7 points and 5.0 boards.
Gooden, 27, was the fourth overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by Memphis. He was dealt from Memphis to Orlando in his rookie season, and has also played for Cleveland and Chicago. He has 13.1 points per game and 8.6 rebounds in 31 contests this season for the Bulls, and career averages of 12.1 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Simmons, 23, has averaged 2.5 points over 11 games for the Bulls this season, his third in the NBA. Ruffin, 32, hasn't played this season due to injuries, having last played last season with Milwaukee. Diogu, 25, has averaged 1.4 points in 19 games for Portland this season, but owns career marks of 5.9 points and 3.0 rebounds.
"We want to thank Ike for his time with the Trail Blazers, and hopefully this trade will give him an opportunity to play more minutes in Sacramento," said Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard.
